Saddle sore.
Sunday was not only the final stage of the Sun Tour, but also the weekend warrior's equivalent of scaling Everest - Around the Bay in a Day. A dozen crafty cyclists got a helping hand from the FYXO van from Rosebud to Dromana and were pretty chuffed.
I completed the ATB cycling monument in 1998, around the same time I dabbled in *cough* triathlon. That day of 220km was to date the biggest single ride I'd ever done. I had never felt so physically shattered. My bike was a Trek 800 mountain bike with slick tyres. Even back then I was amazed at the number of cyclists riding bikes barely fit for riding, inadequately dressed for changes in weather and seemingly very unfit, yet perservering and conquering the loop around Port Phillip. Sunday was no different. Hoardes of cyclists of most denominations suffering through seriously unfavourable conditions and no doubt sleeping well tonight. Hopefully they catch the disease too.
On the topic of saddle sore and disease, I will throw this into today's cocktail.

Classiest ride on the climb had to be this Ciombola - sounds Italian, definitely Australian. Gold plated chainstays and fork blades. Sweeter than cupcakes.

From obscurity, Nathan Haas rose and shocked more than just a few of Australia's young guns taking out the overall victory. Scooter was the magic hands behinds the scenes for the Praties outfit which trumped the Pro Tour big guns.
