Cryin's not for me
{youtube width="640" height="500"}VILWkqlQLWk{/youtube}Four terrains in one day.
Dirt, rock, bitumen and mud. The first Melbourne Gravel Grinders ride had it all. To the 50 odd who turned out, they got served all weather, all surfaces, all fun.
Road bikes, Mountain Bikes, Cyclo-cross, fixed, single speed, 1 x 9, 3 x 9. Bling carbon Guerciotti CX's, ghetto fabulous single speed with knobbies, and more than a few blasts from the MTB past. Just about every permutation you can think of barr recumbent.
Gullys were spewing over with water, massive fallen gums bridged creeks and debris from the recent rain was at road level. Dead roo's and wombats finished the days palette with dark clouds, bright skies, wind and rain. Everything you need to make a great sunday out on the bike.
Congratulations to Angry, Blakey, and Nik C on a well organised ride.
This was the route. Start and finish at Hurstbridge Train station. 80km if you didn't take a wrong turn. Great laminated map handed out to all riders.
Given the choice between Beach rd and Ridge rd? There really is no competition.
A flat provides a nice opportunity to stop, catch your breath, and talk bike.
Pink with envy.
Locals are friendly. Just don't cross them.
Tristram (la hi-vis machina) barrelled over a section of Bald Spur Rd which was more rock garden than gravel road with ease and comfort on those tractor tyres.
The whole MGG set.
My thoughts go out to Ronnie (?) who took a tumble on the slick and sharp turn into Doctors Gully road and had her fun cut short.
Rider photos.

If you took pictures, send them in to share!
See you at the next one.
