Pinarello Montello's and Campagnolo C Record has nothing to with Katy Perry and I hope things remains that way.
Fran's twist on 'I kissed a gurrlll'
Montello
The majority of Pinarello model names in the steel days were a call to the region of Veneto. A town, a city and in the case of the top of the line offering, a hill.
Montello is a mere 371m in elevation. The later model Gavia is slightly higher. This particular Montello is better than new, in part thanks to the ridiculously sublime frame refinishing by Cycle Art. I've seen a lot of resprays in my time and this is one of note, particularly as this is a Chromonero finish. The original frame decals were not cleared over and smoothed out and I'd usually cringe at such sacriledge for period incorrectness - this is a worthy exception.
It's not uncommon for a project to start with a single component and in this case it was the NOS Shamal HPW-12 wheelset. The FYXO brief was to prepare a NOS 1st generation Campagnolo ergopower groupset (thanks Velomine), Cinelli cockpit, then a frame that was period correct - Dan to weave his wizardry and to document the resulting dish.
Buon apetito!
